People who wanted a surfaces tutorial....

What do you want me to use as an example? I'm don't usually design swoopy
shapes so I'm not sure what you guys want to see.

I played around with an example last night (See CF under Cell Phone Shell).
I didn't have my phone with me so I guessed at some dims and it was a quick
and crude model. It wasn't too far off. In the tutorial I'd flesh it out a
bit more...

This model uses extruded and revolved surfaces, surface lofts, knit
surfaces, thicken surface, emboss, decal and standard extrude tools.

Anyway, want to see how to make this as an example? If not give me another
suggestion. I guess I'm just having writers' block.

hey sean, how bout something like a microsoft optical mouse or ilk. mice seem to have that ergo look that i could never produce in solids. the samsung phone you did, (although it looks cool) it seems that i could do that in solids, never even touching surface commands. just my 2 cents. 🙂 -Joe

Actually you couldn't (well I suppose anything
could be chiseled out with enough Booleans.....) but point taken...the
lofting is quite subtle on that.  The screenshots don't really show the
countors very well...

Sean

I think a propeller blade is a great example since lofting wont "cut" it.

You think it would thicken? Couldn't get mine to because of the radii on the
leading and trailing edges. Ended up being a convoluted process to get it to
work with no join lines from separate lofts.

Thicken? No need to 🙂

Just make 2 twisted surfaces and do 2 replace faces on a chunko'material

I wanted to choose a part that would use many of the new commands.

Surface Creation (extrude and revolve)
Surface Loft
Surface Knit
Surface Thicken
maybe replace face
etc...

all in one part

The point is not to create the part the most efficient way but to illustrate
how to use each of the commands.

I think maybe the prop would be a good 2nd lesson...

Yeah ... that might work okay. Think it will leave a visible joint lines on
the leading and trailing edges? I'll try it in a bit.
