Parts List Copy Components, Limited Functionality? Why?

I found out that when I copy my bolt lockwasher and nut with the copy
component commmand, the parts list doesn't combine the quantities because
the part name is different. So now I cant use the copy component command or
I have to rename each one I copied so they all match, Why?

Jerry Chasek.

You only have to change the part number. In the BOM editor select them all &
change one part number & you're done.

can't select them in the BOM editor in SP2, they are greyed out.

You're copying them to a library path?

Are they library parts? I know they took out the ability to change them in SP2.

Yes they are bolts, nuts, etc. Another reason it doesn't work is that in
order for the name to effect the (description) field it must be entered in
the Assembly, not in the BOM editor. Don't ask me why, it just works that
way. Then when I bring in a fastener from Content Center, the description
field is already entered with My info.

Jerry,

When copying components do you have "Reuse Standard Content and Factory Parts checked?

Hmm. I guess then I don't understand why it's giving it a different name.

the name goes from (local.ANSI.1053.220.8.ipt) to
(local.ANSI.1053.220.8_CPY.ipt) and when I make another copy it says
(local.ANSI.1053.220.8_CPY_CPY.ipt) and then it treats the parts
individually and doesn't add them together in the Parts List.

Sorry Jerry I am not seeing this behaviour.

If I Copy Component a Content Center part it does not add _CPY.

If you remove the _CPY when copying the components what happens?
