part list constructive criticism

I feel the need frequently comment on the opportunities for enhancement
available to parts lists (approximately every time I use them). My top five
suggestions resulting from this mornings frustration:

1.) Let me expand sub-assemblies individually to parts-only, with accurate
quantities of parts required to build parent assembly. Subs are often used
for convenience, and need to be ignored in certain cases by the parts list,
but not all cases. Often I mix convenience-subs with actual sub-assemblies.

2.) Let me resize the dialog box. Please.

3.) Frozen items turn purple, which makes it very difficult to read the
black text. How about light blue (like they are cold, frozen, get it?).

4.) Let me multi-select lines for toggling visibility/frozen status.

5.) Let me right-click and have cut/paste as options when editing
description text. (I have to set my coffee cup down to hit ctrl+v,c)

Anthony.

6.) and lets have the possibiltyto change the precision of mass in the part list, instead of having to change the linear dim precision in the mdels

7.)  Allow the cutting and pasting of multiple
cells.

8.) When adding new properties in the part list
column chooser, it would be nice to be able to add many new properties by the
method of 'type a name, hit return, type a name, hit return...' instead of 'type
a name, hit return, click the box, type a name, hit return, click the box'

9.) Unique row identifier works great for
parts!  Allow the unique row identifier to work on
assemblies too.  I have the same assemblies in machines in several
places, but they are in different positions, so they have to be different .iam
files. Their part numbers and descriptions are the same.  With unique
row identifier set up properly, I should be able to list these assemblies in a
single row with a correct quantity.

10.)  Somewhat related to 9, allow us to
edit the quantity.  I could hide the other assemblies (described in 9) and
manually change the quantity to the proper number.

11.)  Allow the width of the columns to adjust
to the longest text in the column in the same way that Excel does. (Double
click on the right edge of the column)

Overall, I love the BOM abilities in IV.  It
has worked great for us 95% of the time.

Here's something, that I would like to see. Allow me to edit the Item Number
in the .IAM BOM, so that every time I place a Parts List in a .IDW, the Item
Number is already set to what I want. We sequence our parts starting at the
number 10 with increments of 5 or 10. Having to edit each Parts List, either
before or after ballooning is a PITA. It would be nice to edit the BOM in
the .IAM and have the Parts List in the .IDW update as needed.

Mike:

I'll second that.

I prefer to keep my BOM in a database and I now have to add a dummy BOM
on the idw just so that I can control the balloon numbers.

This is not as bad as it used to be now that zoom all on idw's focusses
on the sheet, but still a bit of a nuisance.

It would also be nice, since the developers are returning reordering of
the browser (hint, hint!) that the browser could be sorted by this Item
(bubble) number.
