Hi,

To be able to open a drawing, the same must be the name of the 3D file and be in the same folder as parent file.

what's the filename for the part and the filename for the drawing?

I think it only works if they equal - ie 1234.ipt will only open 1234.idw - if you have added anything to the filename it will not be able to automatically find it, and thus why you have the dialog box asking to find it.  I can't remember if it also needs to be in the same folder as the part/assemble file, probably the case.

If you're using Vault then it might also be because the idw is still in the Vault and needs to be "got" to copy to the work drive so Inventor can find it.

My company maintains drawings with a different file name than the model files. Is there an iLogic rule that can be written to circumvent identical file names, excluding the extension of course.

Example of what our file names look like.

Part and assembly files: ABC-12345-0001 - DESCRIPTION_1.ipt, iam, ABC-12345-0002 - DESCRIPTION_2.ipt, etc.

(where the "0001" and "DESCRIPTION" will change. The pre-fix and drawing number will remain the same throughout the design, ie ABC-12345.)

Drawing files: ABC-12345-0001-01.idw, ABC-12345-0002-02.idw, ABC-12345-0003-03.idw, etc.

I have written a few simple iLogic rules but am not very "program lingo" literate. Please help if this can be achived!
