Old MDT4 file thinks it's Autocad

Trying to revive an old MDT4 (maybe even MDT3)
file into Inventor I saved the file in MDT6 then tried to open it in Inventor.
The options dialog insist that it's an AutoCAD file and won't select MDT so I
can import it as a 3D model. Guess I'm lost now. Anyone know what I need to do
to import this file?

Larry Did you try having the file open in MDT and then importing it into
Inventor? If all else fails and you don't need the features then use
amacisout to save it to a sat file. Or post it to CF and I will try to
give it a shot

Thanks Kent! I'wz hop'n you might want to see if it can be done. I knew if
it can be done, you can do it.When I had it open in MDT it wouldn't allow me
to import it. Translator is loaded. Like I said, I'm lost.

That file looks really whacked to me. No idea how it got that way. Don't
waste a bunch of time on it, Kent, I can redraw it in IV; probably better
than an import anyway.

Hi, Larry.

I opened the dwg, AMUPDATE > ALL, updated the scenes and layouts, audit (5
errors), purged. It translated more or less ok (think I saw some flagged
features as it was processing). It's 3.6 MB zipped. I can email if you want
it.

Yes, by all means Jeff, send it. And thanks! Something must be whacked on my
MDT. I do an update all, one error on audit and everything in the browser is
unavailable; all grayed out, and it thinks the drawings are still not
updated. Re open the original, features available in the browser, try it
again, same result. ... cob webs ... it's probably full of cob webs.

One odd thing when I did it. I just opened the MDT file straight from OE,
so when I went to do a update all it warned me that it was read only. So I
saved it to a folder, closed MDT and reopened it just to be sure, then
transferred it to Inventor. When Inventor was done, it had the IAM open in
it. I hit save and it asked me for a name?? I let it take the default name
which was already in the folder. It said it couldn't save it to that name
because it that file was in use..... well no duh... it was the file I was
trying to save. I don't think I have ever had that one happen before??

I'm going to reinstall MDT and see if I can get it to translate too. It came
in but there is stuff missing; probably from my poor modeling job. Think
that was one of the first projects I did in MDT. It had the Read Only tick
checked in the attributes dialog because I took it off of CD and didn't
un-tick the one I sent I'd guess. Thanks for taking a shot at it. If you
still have it, how about sending me a copy so I can compare the two imports
and see if they are the same. Thanks!

Same here. I just saved as a different name in case the one that was there
turned out to be an empty file or something like that (IV likes for me to go
through things like long winded imports twice). I do MDT translations so
infrequently, I never have figured it all out and never know what to expect.

Larry

I still have it and it is actually sitting next to me right now, but I don't think I have
any easy way to hook that machine up to the internet right now. Best I can probably do is
send it tonight when I take my machine home.

If it would really help, I could try to get another line in here.

Uh ... well ... how long would it take to get the new line in? No hurry
Kent ... just to see if there are differences ... no biggie! Thanks!
