Odd Notch Trim Artifact

I've noticed some odd behavior in Inventor 2014 when using the Notch Trim function for frame generated parts. The frame member is first generated along the defined geometry. In this case a member perpendicular to another member of identical width: The item to be trimmed is a square section, the face to trim to is a narrow rectangular section.

As you can see from the resultant trim, there's a stub left on the top. I've tried using the Lengthen/Shorten Trim prior to the notch trim, but I always get an error, or the other end of the square section is length trimmed instead.

Is there a solution to this?

As an aside, one should be able to select which end is to be subjected to a Lengthen/Shorten Trim. Currently, this is not an option and Inventor can get quite confused.

Thank you.
