Objects not supported by iFeatures - Help!

Hi all, I am quite new to Inventor (and I am using a friend's Inventor only...). I am trying to create a hole punch that I can extract for iFeatures. But it keeps prompting me with the Objects not supported by iFeatures message. The punched hole file is attached. Thanks in advance for the help!

The iFeature command works off "features". Have you tried creating the profile and extruding it and then create your iFeature from that feature?

If this post solved your issue please mark as solved and Kudos are always welcome 😃

What browser are you using to try to attach?

You might try zipping the file.

Find the red End of Part marker in the browser.
(End of Folded on sheet metal parts EOF)
Drag the red EOP to the top of the browser hiding all features.

Save the file with the EOP in a rolled up state.

Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

1. Your Sketch(3 in this case) should have a Sketch CenterPoint.  (you have a Point - you can toggle it to a Center Point in upper right corner of screen.

This is a case were you do not want to fully constrain the sketch.  Delete the autoprojected origin center point before creating your circles.  You do not want anything tied to the feature other than a face selected on which to create the sketch.

2. in Sketch4 do not use part origin workplanes as those can't go along with the feature. (create a sketch line in Sketch3 and use that and the face to create a dependant workplane that will go with the Cut1 feature) Do not use Project Cut Edges (same reason as above - you have to be very careful about parent/child dependancies - the children must be able to go with the feature).

Open the *.ide file.

What do you see in the browser?

I need the original generating geometry.

Sorry Sir, what do you mean by "What do I see in the browser"?

here is the screenshot:

I guess I really should buy some reference materials or even take some Inventor course, or else I will have to stick to drawing with AutoCAD...

What I meant is - there is nothing there to see.  Nothing to answer your question.  No way to answer your question.  So you answer should be - there is nothing in the browser except the icon for the Punch.  The only way to answer your question is to see the geometry you used (like in the first file you posted) that shows how you created the Punch.

I assume that in creating this punch you made the changes suggested in my previous response.  That is what I need to see - the exact changes that you made.

Sorry I am confused, I attached another file here and I just tried downloading and opening it. It shows the geomatry I have drawn.

Like this:

Let me try attaching the file again, I really don't quite get what the problem is...

If the attachment is still not shown here, please try the following link:

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Thanks!!!

No apologies are needed here - that is what a help forum is for.

The *.ide file is useless to me.

Attach the *.ipt file here that you used to create the *.ide file.

Oh, I thought the *.ide can be opened on other computers without a problem. (Honestly Inventor is quite strange to me...)
Please find the attached *.ipt.
The problem I have is the punch tool is trying to align the sketch plane with the sheet metal plane, and I need it to be perpendicular to it...

Thanks so much for the help!

Sure it can be opened - but there is no useful information in the finished iFeature (Punch) to show where you went wrong in creating it.

You have not created it correctly - you were closer in your first attempt.

You must start with a Sheet Metal part Face feature (for what you are after) and then proceed very much like your original attempt, except for the 2 mistakes I pointed out earlier.  You were almost there.

I did notice another error in logic.

You made the material get thicker than it was to start with?

The outside radius should be equal to the inside radius + the thickness.  You have them both the same.

One or the other has to be different.

Going back to your original file

1. remove the extra circle

2. change the point to a sketch center point

2a. I recommend you give the dimension a name.

Attach your file here.  Edit: I made some changes.

Thanks very much for the help and understanding! Yes I haven't yet considered if that punch is logical. I will amend it! Let me really take some time to try again and learn Inventor. Just thanks a lot!

I have the same problem to create iFeatures. Could anyone educate? Attached is the ipt.file

It keeps saying "Objects not supported by iFeatures will be removed from selection"
