No-profile when mirroring in a sketch

I don't understand this but when I do a mirror in a sketch and try to extrude a cut into a part Inventor views the mirrored portion as an unclosed profile. Is there a way to force the mirrored portion to become a closed profile without removing the mirror constraint? And yes the part is semetric in all axis.

This was an issue in 5.3. Are you on IV6 SP2?

Is the sketch marked adaptive?

Is the sketch shared?

If the mirror was done post-sharing, the extrusion command will only "see"
the profile if the original feature (pre-share) is marked un-adaptive.
