New feature...

I was using Solidworks 2003 the other day and found a great feature in it.
When you insert a hole you can pick the drill size even the number drills
and C'Bore Size. Unlike Inventor you do not have to type in the decimal
equivalents for the C'Bore. If you pick a C'Bore for a 5/16 it fills our the
information for you but you can change the decimal numbers if you want to.
Reminded me of the Power Pack in Mechanical Desktop.

When will AutoDesk do the same thing in Inventor?

There is an addin that will do it. I think it is called IvHoles. Check out

AFAIK, this is not a feature of basic SW, but part of what they call SW
Office.
In addition to the IvHole tool Drew provides, there are several other
add-ins that give you similar functionality.

Actually this is a feature of base SolidWorks, not Sw Office

So this may have changed since SW2001, where my knowledge of SW started to
faint, It was a kind of toolbox then.

It is standard in SW 2003. For the price of Inventor something like that
should be included in the package not as a add-in, you know what it is like
to ask the owners to pay for a add-in when they just spent thousands for a
software package.

This feature was available in "Toobox" add on (for AutoCAD). Solidworks bought the company and incorporated this feature in Ver 2003.

Only thing I don't like about this bit of code is it's separate from IV. These
standard holes should be in IV, IMHO. Of course, you could make an iFeature for
every size, but then you have to add it in X number of times.

Is anyone getting annoyed of these add-ins? I have a macro for center of gravity for idw, a macro for weight summation in the idw, add in for hole creation & many, many others. I think that it’s great that users are creating ad-ins & macros for inventor customization & sharing them. I depend on them. Let’s be honest, these features should be in Inventor STANDARD. Period. I for one think Autodesk should pay Sean Dotson & Cbliss royalties. These guys should write their own software, I’d buy it.

Did you ever use AutoCAD? How many of the things you used every day were
standard? Many of mine were either custom (LISP), Express Tools (an ADD-IN that
didn't used to come with ACAD), or MPT (Fasteners, steel shapes, etc.)

i'll 3rd that motion - those guys' and lots of others are invaluable to the IV community. i'm at least glad to see that IV incorporated charles' 3d text - charles of course still has bragging rights that he came up with it first. 🙂 -Joe

And Charles' still has a lot more options (curved text).

Exactly. I doubt anyone knows how many hundreds (thousands?) of LISP routines are out there on the net for free download.

Sure. I used Autocad, painful memories I wish not thinking about. This isn't Vectors & this is not Autocad. I guess what I'm saying is the customer is always right, espcially when you can find these options in other packages.
Sorry, I didn't mean to leave Kent, Patrick & Neil out...
Autodesk, start sending those checks..lol
