I am happy that you enlightened me on this licensing thing and that will be
very important to follow as to not burn an activation. can I simply copy my
Inventor folder to the new computer and the program will find the work or
do I need to put in a search path. all of my work is local on a stand alone
machine not drawn from a network

Are you asking how to install a program

or

are you

asking how to copy a data folder?

Are you using Projects (*.ipj) or are you using Vault?

Edit:  ....since it is stand-alone I assume you are using Projects rather than Vault.

Are you using Content Center items?

just copy the whole folder

(we assume your project file is in this folder too and as such it should all work magically 🙂 )

Or you might just have to edit your project file to point to the new workspace/folder

I am not using vault and all of the IPJ are in the folder so if I understand right the magic should happen.
that is what I wanted to know... if inventor would find the information or I needed to direct inventor to it.

I have installed several times before however I was never concerned with the number of activations. if I wish to use an ancillary install on my home computer then I need to do the license transfer as described in the first reply.

my concern is the unresolved link message.
going from this example c;\Users\Larryc\documents\inventor\xxxxxxx\partname  to  c;\documents\inetntor\xxxxxx\partname
unresolved links can be real agravating to reslove when the path has changed.
