Need MUCH FASTER Dimensioning, Adesk?

How to cut the time I spend creating IV dwgs(idws) in half? Right now, in
IV6, it takes two dialogs and about 10 mouse clicks to make each dim look
like I want it.

To start, don't make me create a new dim style to:
get aligned text on a vertical dimension
-and-
more to create a single dim with 2 places and another for 3 places and
another for 4 decimal
places of precision
-and-
more to set a single dim precision to 1/16 and another
for 1/32 and another for 1/64...
-and so on-

Now that I'm not forced to make gobs of superfluous dim styles, give me a
property painter so I can match properties on the 2 or 3 other dims on every
drawing that need the same precision, tolerance, etc.

Now, make it so I can set the tolerance AND add add'l text(e.g. TYP, 4X, 3
SP @... etc.) in a SINGLE dialog box(no tabs please.)

Thanks!

Hi Mark

Are you aware you can multiselect dims and then use the dropdown to change their style?
Also I seem to remember hearing of some trick using the context dialog....New style.
Unfortunately I can't remember what it was, so possibly it wouldn't be much help 8^))
Big help huh

Mark:

I can't see where your method is going to save any time?

All of my common, and some not-so common, dim styles are part of my
Standard.idw.

The one I use most frequently is identified as my standard. 80% of my
dimensions automatically come out the way I want them.

If I have a couple of dimensions that need to be different, I do them
using my standard style, then highlight each of them and select the
desired style from the drop list.

How much easier does it get?

Richard,

I'm trying to avoid the, at least, dozens of dim styles it would take to
describe all of the different permutations of dim settings that we use in
our drawings. Right now I have 13 dim styles and it doesn't even begin to
come close. I guess I was spoiled by the company that makes the leading 2D
drafting package...that's how easy it could get 😉

Kent,

I do use multi-select(shift + pick) to change the dim style. Window select
would take, say 10 times, less clicks.. I may be a little pickier at the
moment because I just finished a couple of drawings that took a lot longer
than they should've.

You may be aware that double clicking on a number and pressing "3" will set
the precision to 3 decimal places, "2" will set it to 2 places, etc. Pretty
fast, a good tip.

Mark:

Obviously you just have to start making simpler parts 😉

Do those machinists actually pay attention to all those tolerances?

Thanks Gary. That'll save some clicks.

I usually right click, then select tolerances for linear dims, but AFAIK,
the only way to do this for hole notes is with a separate dim style? We
like to have an associative hole note that matches the fractional bit used
to create the hole. I see you can adjust the precision of the hole
tolerance, but not the value? Am I missing it?

I know there's been some flack about hole note tolerancing the past, but
what I've suggested seems to change the number of decimals in the actual
value, as it would for a linear dimension, as you would expect.

I would like to see 0 suppression for angles without suppressing 0's in
linear dims, all in the same dimstyle.
