Hello All,
I am wondering if I am missing something when it comes to the weld symbol options I have available to me in IV. Please reference the attached picture.
I have a complete joint penetration weld at one of my canopy designs that requires a weld backing strip. This strip isn't required to be removed except as noted in AWS D.1.1 paragraph 5.10.4.1 or 5.10.5 or unless I specifically instruct them to do so per AWS D1.8 paragraph 1.2.1(5). None of which apply in my situation.
Why is my only option in IV to have a weld backing strip that is removed? Is there something I am missing?
I would use the consumable insert option for that weld. That is the one I have used in the past, very similar to the removable backing strip but without the R.
Yeah, that's the one I have considered using. It's just that it's not the correct shape and I don't want the field to get confused when that one and the removable one are used together on the same drawing.
Plus there's the whole "weld symbol education" issue. I have spend years getting my employees educated in the exact usage of welding symbols and what they mean instead of just slapping a fillet weld all around (which is rarely ever the correct weld symbol anyway). And now all of a sudden their software doesn't even have the correct symbols in it .
I just don't see why it would be so hard for AD to get it right. IMHO it wouldn't even be that hard for them to include a few education features into the weld symbol dialog box so others might have a better chance at getting the right one on there.
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something and see what others had done in my similar situation. I'll add this request as yet another wishlist item I will never see.
Okay, here's another one...
Why is it that I can only stagger a fillet weld! Come on Autodesk!
I have added these two as enhancement requests with our development team.
