Need help with shell option. Deathstroke Mask

Hi guys!

I am creating a new model (a mask) that i need to add a shell to so i can print it. I am new to this and i need help. When i try to use the shell function it responds with an error message (Could not shell. The selected component has no volume.). I was also hoping to smooth out the model.

The mask is one of Arkham Deathstroke for those interested. Nerd lol

Any help given would be great and i would be very thankful.

It sounds like you're model is a surface. Try using the thicken command instead.

The image you posted is not of an Inventor file.

Can you attach the Inventor *.ipt file here?

Did you import this from an stl file?

More information is needed.

ummm... Are you creating this in the drawing environment.

You should be creating (and posting here) a part file (ipt extension).

A drawing file (idw or dwg) is how you create a 2d drawing of a 3d part. You don't create your 3d part in a drawing file.

You didn't answer my previous question.

Did you create that geometry?

That is an imported stl file - generally of little use other than for reference in an engineering software like Inventor.

You might have more luck with that in Fusion 360 or....

Have you installed Service Pack 2 for Inventor 2014?

Did you observe that it is coarsely faceted planar triangles rather than smooth surface?

Thats a "mesh".. Its not a 3d part as it has no thickness/volume.

You need the mesh enabler add-in which allows output from various "graphics" programs to become solid models.

Assuming you are a student you will need to email Scott Shepard from Autodesk and ask him how to get it.

If you are a professional just log into the autodesk app store and download it.

When you're done, be sure and post a picture in the next Friday Pictures so we can see the result. 😄
