Need a Quadro FX500 (in UK)

Just about got the spec' for my new Inventor box sorted out, but having
trouble sourcing one of these cards in the UK. They don't seem to have
arrived over here yet. Anyone this side of the pond got one? If so, where
from?

Alternatively, how does the new FX5900 rate with Inventor? .....anyone tried
it?

Thanks,
John Ricketts

I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe the FX500 is a good choice, it's pretty low-end.

The only Quadro cards in the UK are PNY cards. The main distributor is Man and Machine www.manandmachine.co.uk but I don't think
they sell to end users, only PC manufacturers and CAD VAR's. www.dabs.com had a few in stock last friday, so check them out.

Recent tests by Autodesk (news via our reseller)
have shown that the Quadro FX500 128mb DDR (circa £270) outperformed both
the Quadro 4 980XGL 128mb DDR (circa £450) and the Quadro FX1000 128mb (DDR2)
(circa £740) on Inventor tests. I would suspect that this is down to the
drivers, and NVidia will undoubtedly make tweaks further down the
road.

A lot obviously depends on the test platform, and
whether it is well matched to the card. I'm looking for the best I can get to
run with a 3GB/800 P4.

Hmmm, interesting. Wouldn't it be nice if it was a reproducible trend! Here are the official Nvidia numbers:

Yes, already seen those. My guess is that the available drivers and other
hardware were throttling the higher end cards in the tests with Inventor.
Might ask our supplier (Adris in Southampton) for some more information
about the tests.....

It's been discussed in here before, but raw benchmarking of Open/GL performance does not necessarily mean better application
performance, particularly in the case of Inventor. We all know how picky IV is about graphics so the fastest "Raw Benchmark" card
ain't necessarily gonna cut the Mustard with Inventor.

You should be able to get Adris to source you a card if you're having trouble.

I have a FX500 on my PC at home, it was spec'd as part of my Dell workstation, but i have not yet seen them for sale on their own. As for performance, i have not really tired it with inventor yet, but it does seem to be a nice card and compares quite well to the 980XGL i have at work
