My Autodesk Reseller….My Competitor??

I receive the following marketing email from my Autodesk reseller today. I am their customer, who makes his living using the software which I pay them dearly for. They get the software at a deep discount then turn around and compete for my job. Maybe I have missed something here and would like to hear how other Autodesk users view this solicitation.

Jim,

I’d like to make you aware of a new service from Hagerman – one of the largest Autodesk resellers in America.

We can provide manpower to assist in your internal CAD operations at a low contractor rate. This may help to alleviate your personnel constraints or lower your overall costs. Our experienced, expert technicians will come to you on whatever schedule you desire, or we can work off-site in our offices, if desired.

Our technical operations are overseen by an experienced technical manager, Tad Whitchurch, who will be responsible for your satisfaction. He manages a group of certified Autodesk experts across the country.

In addition to drafting and modeling services, we have consultants available in most disciplines who can advise on productivity improvement, new technologies, document management, rapid prototyping and many other strategic initiatives.

Please give me a call today if you would like to discuss any of these possibilities further.

Best regards,

Dennis A. Hagerman, President

I received the same email and I also feel they have now become my competitor. I am extremely unhappy with this situation.

They are not the only one... There's another based in Michigan, with
multiple offices - do your research.

I thought Autodesk resellers have always offered this type of service, i.e. contract design work ?

Yeah, I don't think it's like they are going out and bidding
against you on jobs your customers are having you quote, are they?
That would be competition.

It "reads" more like they have a CAD service to help you, unless they are
actually going out and solicitating your customers to do their CAD work.

Problem is, the local reseller sells Autodesk's software to "Joe's CAD Design Service" as well as to "Big Iron Manufacturing", so they're *both* the reseller's customer. Why shouldn't they be allowed to offer their service directly to ALL of their customers ?
