Multiple Sessions?

Why is it that the open file dialog doesn't stick to the current session? For example, open up a session of Inventor and set it to project A. Now launch another session of Inventor and set it to project B. go back to session A and launch the open file dialog, notice how its directed to the path of session B. Isn't this catastophic to semi-isolated environments?

First, It is NOT a good idea to have multiple sessions of IV open at the same
time in any event.
Second, does it help to know that IV uses Windows file pointers?

I wandered if anyone else had seen this. I have to
do this if I want to change a library part without closing the project I'm
working on at the time.

Can you explain this file pointer thing a little more?

When you open a session (A) of Inventor, it is registered with Windows. That's
how it knows where to go when you use "File--Open" in the first place. When you
open another session (B), it re-registers with that new session. When you switch
back to first session, it does not re-register again, since it is not commanded
to. It will then open the last known default directory, which was the one used
in session B. If you open a 3rd session, that one will be the default for all
other sessions, etc.

It makes you wonder why you can even launch multiple sessions of Inventor if it's so dangerous. Every asks me why I would launch multiple sessions of Inventor and I tell them "because I can!"

I'm never able to work on a project from start to
finish so I will open a side project in a new session. This way if I crash it
won't take both projects with it.

You can drink battery acid too, but you don't see
people rushing out to do it......

On the other hand I can think of a couple instances
where having more than one instance of IV open is handy. Too bad it's so
catastrophic......

I don't think it's really that "dangerous", just so
you know the behavior so you can control it yourself.
