Multi-User Project Environment

Greetings All,

I am experiencing issues with Project Files. (Multi-User Environment - Semi-Isolated) What is the proper method to check-in and check out document sets. Let's assume you have an assembly checked out from a network location with all its children check out. With this done, I should be working on the assembly from my Workspace not the Project Workgroup. I make some modifications to the children parts, do I save to the workspace or workgroup. Do I have to save the .IAM level to check in the tree? Please provide some help if you can. The document management document is difficult to extract the exact process. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You should save to the Workspace (it should do this by default). When you
check-out parts, IV makes a copy of part on your local (workspace). This is the
file you want to update. When you check-in, IV overwrites the file in the
Workgroup. In the meantime, others can LOOK at the file you are altering, but
not save to it. When you are done, check-in all files you have checked-out
(usually "check-in tree") then close. You don't save again after you check-in.

After you have checked files out and begin modifying them IV will keep
track of where to save them. When you finish your editing, yes it would
be a good idea to save the assembly file before checking everything in.
If you create a new part while working on the assembly, then YOU have
to be concerned about where that file is saved. We learned the hard way
that the best place to save a new file is to select the workgroup
location you want the file to be saved in. IV will then save the file
and at the same time check it out to you.
