Multi-dimensional coil help

Hi everyone,

  I have a problem which I could use some help with.  I am trying to create a multi-dimensional coil, and I am not sure how.  What I mean by that is that I have some tubes which are wrapped around one another in one direction (coil 1), which maintaining the coil pattern I then need to wrap vertically along the inside of a barrel (coil 2).  I know how to create coil 1 just fine, but it's when I try to wrap it vertically into coil 2 that I run into issues, because the twisted pattern of "coil 1" is not maintained through coil 2, it is just a flat pattern.  In simplier terms imagine taking a slinky and coiling it vertically inside of an oil drum...that is essentially what I am trying to create.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
