Moving roller Chain

I am trying to do a basic roller chain moving along a path.

I followed this tutorial on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5mJqJ1fsyc&feature=youtu.be and a pdf John Tillema created.  Both seem to follow the same process but I keep getting a chain where all links are horizontal rather than actually changing angle and  following the path.

I ahve attached what I have done, any help greatly appreciated.
