Hello All,
I think I know the answer to this but I'm going to ask anyway...
I have a frame generator assembly that I created to take advantage of the frame analysis tools. This assembly was later broken down into the main fabricated assemblies (for drawing purposes) using the "demote frame generator component" tools. The basic question is this: can I take one of the "demoted" sub-assemblies and move it to another assembly file all-together?
Further explanation is this:
Any ideas on the best way to move the four legs from the platform assembly to the tank assembly after the fact? I was thinking I would just place the leg sub-assembly into the tank assembly and then delete it out of the platform one but I'm not sure of the ramifications.
Thanks for the help.
What you could do is open the top level assembly for the Frame Generator. In that assembly you have an option of demoting components to a new sub-assy in the Frame Generator. To demote to a new sub-assy. You can select the frame components in the browser and right click and select the component and expand the options. You should see a Demote/Promote Frame Generator Components option. This is important PLEASE DO NOT Use the standard Demote/Promote command. The Demote/Promote Frame Generator Components will keep the links back to the sketch from which the frame was generated. If you us a generic demote/promote the links will be broken and the frame will not update to changes. With a new sub-assy created of just legs you can attach that new sub-assy into your tank assembly.
Please note not using the Demote/Promote Frame Generator Components will break the links to frame sketch and will make the file no longer update to change to the frame sketch or model when changes.
Hopefully this will be enough information to help you make up your mind to the best decision for you.

Thank you but per my OP that is what I have done. My question was more about the best way to REMOVE the leg sub-assembly from the Frame Generator assembly AFTER that and if I could then PLACE the leg sub-assembly in the tank assembly like you mentioned.
What I have done is this:
1.) Demote the Frame Generator components (legs) into a new sub-assembly using the proper tools.
2.) In the platform sub-assembly I set the leg sub-assembly to be "Reference"
3.) In the platform sub-assembly made the leg sub-assembly "Invisible"
***The previous two steps I hope have set the legs so they don't show up in the platform parts lists without breaking any FG links but I don't know for sure***
4.) Place the newly created leg sub-assembly into the tank assembly.
The only draw-back I have encountered with this so far is that by setting the legs to be invisible I lose my Frame Analysis setup information (beams & nodes) and in order to proceed there I need to go back and set it to be visible before I update and proceed in that environment.
I still really have no idea if there is a better way to do this or if I have broken any FG links this way.
