I have been attempting to create motor windings for a small centrifual pump.I found these 2 pictures of windings created with Inventor but i was unable to view them as files. How are the copper wires formed to get the windings like in the pictures attached.
I could only manage the rim in the Inventor file and not the wires
It looks like a wire is created and then patterned but thi looks like a 3D sketch is needed for wire and then circle pattern????
Any help with this would be appreciated
Best Regards
Lou
The best would be to do a 3D sketch and sweep the profile of each winding. You will have carefull not to have a self -intersecting sketch. You might be able to create a fair bit on a single plane depending on how the winding travels from the front outside to the front inside. A work-plane might be able to intersect both long-axis of the winding.
Thanks Blair
Would i make a single winding and use circle pattern tool?
I can do sketches 2D but never done much with a 3D sketch...I know this a is a big ask but could you do possibly a single winding for me to view.I also understand if you are unable due to being busy
Thanks
Lou
I agree that exploring a part in Inventor does seem to be easier and faster to learn modelling techiques, However when one isn't availble or people are too busy to post one, I look around for some good tutorials.
For Modelling I start here:
http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/content/DSG322/inventor_surface_tutorials.htm
they generally get me going in the right direction,
for your need, this tutorial might help:

Good Luk!
Edit:
Forgot to mention that I also look for models that have been uploaded to sites such as GrabCAD, people upload all kinds of models and assemblies. I found this one quickly seaching for Coil
http://grabcad.com/library/stupid-coil
Yes thank you for the Windings file....i did a search of Grabcab and found the attached picture although it is a Solidsworks file...This Windings looks very good....would this be possible in Inventor
Thanks for the help
Lou
Thanks Mr Rdyson
I do not follow this "create one "X" shaped sweep".Please how do i create the "create one "X" shaped sweep" ?
Thanks again
Lou
Well, maybe more of a "V" than an "X".
Attach what you have so far and specify your Inventor version
Thanks Mr Rdyson
I am using Inventor 2014
Attached is as far as i know to this point
thanks again
Lou
