Motion Problem

Hi,

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out why in dynamic simulation my valves are not interacting with the camshaft.

I believe they have been correctly constrained as much as possible and still allowing them the required movement.

Currently the valves have a Mate constraint along the shaft with a hidden part to align them. And then also a Tangent from the flat surface to the camshaft disc which in standard assemble shows the parts moving. But when run in dynamic simulation the vlaves dont move at all unless I apply a force, they dont fall as I've removed gravity (no need for it in the simulation).

Any insight someone might have to solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Below is the video to show the parts and constraints.

If its no good I'll make a more detailed one.

Cheers,

Hope someone can get back to me soon 🙂

This doesn't sound right.
Attach the assembly here.

Attached a pdf file with print screens of the assembly, couldnt think of a another way to do it.

Thanks for getting back so quickly aswell 🙂

An Inventor assembly is made up of  *.ipt files and *.iam files.

Simplify as much as possible (don't need every piston in a multi-piston assembly).

In fact, if the problem is with the valves and cam - only need the crank, the camshaft and one valve (and lifter?).  I guess include that "hidden part" as well.

I don't see a joint for the ratio between the crank and the camshaft.

I don't see 2D Contact Joints between the camshaft and the lifters.

I don't see Spring Joints for the valves.

File>Save As>Pack and Go

Remove any extraneous files/folders.

zip (roll up EOPs if needed)

attach Inventor assemby here.

Spent a couple more hours playing about with it and managed to find a solution by adding 3D joints and some springs.

I've most likely skipped alot of important constraints etc but I was on an extremely short deadline to just show that it works regardless. Definitely ended up making more work for myself than intended 😄
