When I try to loft two "C" shaped profiles I select the first one fine, but then I get a error message saying
"select at least one region"

On open profiles you have only surface as an option?
What are you trying to do with the file?
See iCF

I solved my problem, I had placed a very small line (2" long) at bottom of sketch for referance but not part of curve, Inventor didn't like it, so i deleted it and now it works.

Why doesn't inventor tutorial help tell you only (one) the lofted tobe curves can be in a sketch ?????

The "select a region" (which by most inerpretations mean an "area", probably a
result of old interface that wouldn't do open surfaces) message is misleading.
It should be "select curve chain" or something of that sort.

The gist of it, though, is that the first pick causes IV to look at a
particular sketch and it can't figure out which curve chain out of multiple
possibilities to use for the section. Picking a curve segment will then point
to a particular curve or chain of curves and you can then proceed.

There are a number of goofy problems that arise from having construction
geometry, reference geometry or even sketch or hole center points in the loft
section sketch. For this reason I would often project just the curves for the
section onto a new sketch and use that for the loft.

There's another one that you will probably run across sooner or later. If you
pick a surface edge, for instance, as a loft section you will have to either
rmb > Continue or go back to the Sections list and click "Click to add" before
starting on the next section curve set.
