Modeling Continuous Belting

For some belt-modeling practice, I want to produce a copy of this. Is there an easier way to do it than sketching profiles on a plane and extruding belts to desired width? Is it possible to model belts that are actually flexible, and perhaps shrink-fit them by reducing their length, cinching in the rollers?

The easiest might be to sketch a line of the side profile of the belt and then extrude to surface and then use the thicken command.

Some care must be taken to allow for the Offset/Thicken when creating the sketch line.
