Missing equal length constraints when in 3D sketch mode?

Hello,

I use 3D sketching frequently as a means to generate frames with the frame generator.

I notice that the constrain group no longer contains an equal length tool, as in a simple 2D sketch.  This is where i would generally select two lines, and constrain them to be equal in length.

Is there a reason for this omission? Should I be worried that my menus are not showing the full options for constraints?

Thanks for any help.

Hello!

I think only dimensionally and not geometrically with equal constraint like you said.

Hi Joe_Banger,

Is it possible that you could use 3D solids instead of 3D sketches for your frames?

There are some tips here, that might help going forward:

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

This is a workaround which i am very happy with. Did not know about this function and am pleased with it as it caters for my current needs.

I do however do 3D sketches for other reasons, and would still like to see a 'equal' constraint - perhaps R2015

That's a really nicely constructed post Curtis.  Bookmarked now thank you!

In addition to it, a function that used to be in plain sight in 2013's Assembly tab (now buried in the "Component" fly-out of the Assembly tab) is "Make Layout".

If you are creating a new assembly for a frame, then use "Make Layout" to create a part for your skeleton model.  It's exactly the same as any other new part, but it automatically has its BOM Structure set to Phantom.  This saves you the step of remembering to change it later - of getting your model mass horribly wrong.

I've been building frames going on 4 years and never even though to do this.  I knew you could use existing geometry edges to attach new frame members, but never thought to start with a solid.  With my frames I'm not sure I ever would, but still nice to know!

Thanks Curtis!
