Welcome to the forum.

Does this link apply to you?  Not knowing anything about Maya, based on this article it looks like you need a special plugin to export to iges.

Another thought is Autodesk now owns Maya, so maybe if you do need additional plugins you could contact your local VAR.

I've been doing some work in Alias (2014) this week and - depending on the size of the mesh I import to Inventor, I either get a nice, clean mesh (small mesh size) or absolutely nothing - not even an error message for large meshes.

May be a similar issue.  I get the same result in Inventor 2013 and 2014, but if I export the mesh as an STL file it imports to Inventor properly regardless of size.

thank you for all your interest. if this happen someone else i'v solve this exporting model stl from maya import it to rhino select object and "mesh to nurbs" command in rhino. it converts the polygons into nurbs surfaces. and then export the nurbs object STEP or IGES in rhino.

Could you go into more depth please. I would like to do the same to edit a model I made in Maya through inventor but I can't seem to do it.

You are responding to a topic from 2013, things might have changed quite a bit.

According to this help page, Maya (2019) supports exporting to inventor's .ipt format, so it might be really easy.
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Maya-Man...

As i don't know Maya, i can't say for sure if and how it works.
Hope you can figure it out. 😉

The help page seems to show more filetypes, than are existing in reality.

I couldn't find STL_ATF, INVENTOR_ATF and several other file formats in Maya 2019.1

Hello @WHolzwarth!

Is the ATF Plugin loaded in Maya?

Here also the workflow exporting with ATF from Maya: Export files with Autodesk Translation Framework (ATF)

Thanks,
Marius

Ok, well STEP, IGES and Parasolid still seem to be available... guess those are the next best thing to export to. 😉

Not in many situations, Niels. No result, if Maya data are meshes.

For these cases, I think OBJ is an alternative. But many meshes need reduced number of faces for transfer into an Inventor solid, using the Mesh Enabler App.

So I installed Maya 2018 and tried to export a file to inventor ATF and Maya says that it exported but I can't find it in its file location where I saved it. I'm going to do some searching on the Maya forms but I just wanted to let yall know.

i also noticed this but i can't say if it ever worked it also could be it broke with the latest update of Maya 2018

& they just eliminated this function in 2019

the stl export from 2018 does create a file

Oh darn. I was trying to learn Maya since I assumed it could import to Inventor...

I'm trying to design a mask on Maya, import it to Inventor, make precise cuts, and lastly 3d print it.  Do yall know of any free (or free for students) software that works similar to Maya and is able to export to Inventor to make edits to it?
