Mating a point to a face

Hi everyone,

Here are 2 screenshots to describe my problem.
Is Inventor able to do this?

I managed to mate the origin point to the Z vector, but I cannot find a way to attach the 3 points to the surface.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Attach the *.ipt file (or one similar) here for demonstration.

If you can't attach the actual file - make sure your sample matches the history tree has order of history will be critical to the solution.

Thank you for answering.

attached are the 4 files (3 .ipt & 1 .iam).

I'm trying to constrain Lewmar_T44.ipt on the surface (derived from Alias in another .ipt) contained in XXX_plateforme_panneaux_de_pont.ipt.

Ideally, I would like to constrain it as shown on image below:

- point in green circle on z axis, that I managed to do it

- point in blue circle on large surface

- both lines (with red lines) touching the edge of the small surface (with blue line)

On the first post, I was asking for something slighly different :

- 3 points (in red circles) on the large surface

- one point on z axis.

This is not as good as the first constraining arrangment, but will do.

Basically, is this possible to do on Inventor (I have been NX user for over 10 years)

Thanks again for your contribution.

Best regards

Hi everyone,

So no one answered to the question: Is it possible to constrain a point to a face?

But it really seems it is not, too bad...

For anyone trying to achieve it, the way I found to get around this lack is to construct the constraining geometry in a 3d sketch of a component of the .iam so that I could create an UCS allowing me to place the deck hatch exactly where I want. A little tidious but it finally made the job.

To be more accurate, the constrains needed was not only point to face but also axis (vector) to face edge.

Have a good day!

David

You did not attach the same files that are referenced by your assembly files.

Oups, sorry, I did not check the zip file and I obviously mixed up the files.

This zip is correct.

Thank you for your help.

Best

David
