mass move & re-linking files [project dosent seem to work]

Hi All,

I'm stil lnew at this inv stuff, and ythis old dog is trying to relearn my embedded MDT habits...

We are aboiut to make a major serbver change, and in order to be productive while the change takes place, we are asked to move our files fromt he server to our local drive.

I've copied all my files 'my project'.
I've changed the project to reflect the new location of said files
But I still have to manually relink all the files over. So far, I'm doing all my 'library' stuff, alstough my 'library stuff' is also moved, and the project path set..

So, can anyone tell me how the Project consept really works (not just defining it)?

Is there an easier way other than relinking every file?

Even every instance of the 'factory parts' needs to be relinked. I would have assumed that once you relinked one instance of a factory part, all instances would have migrated over as well... Grumble, grumble....

I think that the problem is with the library parts.
If you define your project with relative paths to your workspace, project group
paths and local search paths, they update without resolving. Library parts,
regardless of relativity or not are hard coded and have to be resolved one at a
time. 😞

Ask Walt, he explained it a while
back.

And these is a bug in 5.3 that involved resolving
library paths.  If you go through them it asks you to resolve them all
however only the first one is actually remembered.  The next time you open
you'll have x-1 parts to resolve and this repeats till x-1 comes zero.
Then when you get them back on the server you'll have to repeat the process..

Most likely the relinking is required because you renamed the library
pointers.

If this hadnt occured, there should have been no relinking required.

Theres writeups on project files at my site, www.mymcad.com, seans site
www.sdotson.com and at pointa
