Making Planes Visible in Inventor Library Parts

I'm assembling parts and one of the parts is in my Inventor Library. When I try to make a plane visible it won't let me. I can constrain to the plane , I just can't make it visible. Is there a way around this?

Take the file out of the library, turn on the planes you want then put it back.

You of course would have to do the same to turn off again.

Or, use a project with no library.

If I have a project with no library, how do I deal with common parts? Currently I have over 1000 parts in my library.

I use a project file with no library when I need to modify library parts.

When I am done I go back to the project with the library.

That way I do not have to move the file, modify it, and then move it back.

That's what I've been doing. It just seems cumbersome.

I just upgraded to Inv 2011 after 10 years of using Inventor 5. To say this is difficult would be an understatement.
