Making a wing rib in sheet metal

Hi There,

I am new to Inventor and I ahve been trying to creat a wing rib similar to the one in the picture.  I have been successful in recreating the basic shape itself, but I cannot figure out how to make the bend to the "lightening hole" (circle).

Any help would be seriously appreciated...

Attach the ipt file of what you have attempted so far - or at least indicate what version of Inventor you are using.

Do you need a sheet metal part that will give Flat Pattern - in that case look into Punch features.

otherwise - looks like a simple countersink and shell feature.

I am using Inventor 2014

What i am trying to do is make this model so I can flatten it out and use it for a template for cutting out a new wing rib.  I will be doing this with a bunch of other ribs as well, so I really haven't saved any files thus far as I am trying to learn the workflow.

When you do save a file - attach it here for pointers.

You might go through these -

I made a quick example file for how the wing rib would look.

You could make a punch that created the countersunk hole.

It's not really very intuitive to do, but you can seach google for a tutorial.

But creating it as a solid and then "shelling" would also work.

Brgds,

Chris
