Lockfile.lck

Does anyone know the logic by which this file is
created and or located?.

AFAIK the file is created to keep track of who checks out or reserves a file
when using the semi-isolated or shared mode. The files are created in the
folder where the files being worked on are located.

I think they are also created for non-isolated or non-shared users as well.
I have seen a few of them not get deleted when I have crashed IV. Also they
tend to stick around if the process does not end (you close IV but the
process is still running in task manager)

Thats what I am seeing also.
So I guess its safe to delete them after everbody has checked their files
in?

As long as all the files have moved from the workspace to the workgroup
storage area I have not had any problems deleting leftover lock files from
crashes or abnormal program exits.

This is something that we have been curious about as well, we also noticed
that IV doesn't seem to actually 'lock' files in a traditional way whilst
you are working on them and we assumed that this was the purpose of the
lockfile.lck file, to handle locks to 'open' files...

Anyone else know any better, or have anything to add, this is based on my
own personal investigations and so may be complete nonsense based on my
misintepretation of the observed facts!

I think that oblervation is correct. The lock file is more record keeping
than locking. I have noticed if you forget and try to open the file in the
workgroup while you have a modified file in the workspace, IV will tell
about the updated file and ask if you would rather open that file. However,
if the lock file is deleted, when you try to open the file in the workgroup,
IV allows you to do so without notifying you of the file in the workspace.
