Locked Files/Checking Out

I am finally making the move to INV6 from 5 and I opened my big assembly in the shared mode and in the process killed INV, so now I have files that are still checked out by myself, yet I can't check them in, thus I can't edit them. Does anyone know how I can check them back in.

Thanks!
Mike

You have to "Steal Checkout". It will throw up a
big nasty dialogue with red background and yellow letters, but steal the
checkout anyway. I could be wrong about this.

I've got the same problem only worse. With 3D
models, you're right it is possible to steal the Check out. But If you try
it on a drawing my INV crashes during startup. So i never can reach "Steal
Check out". So what to do next??? Is there an other wy to reach
it?????

In the browser panel click on the arrow next to the
word model and switch to file status. right click each file and steal the files
back.

Inventor 6 can be a little buggy and when you crash
it leaves the files checked out to a person of your name but not you and you
have to steal them back in most cases.

this annoyed (edited) the people in our
office until we got the hang of it.
Always check the parts in when your finished or you
will annoy someone else.
When working in the top level of the model adding
or changing constraints check it out before saving.
for some reason if you edit a file it asks you to
check it out so that the changes save when you are finished but assemblies never
do.

Good luck

Make sure all the model and assembly files are
checked in.

Alternatively that they are checked out by you (the
real you that is if you have crashed they will be locked to a fictitious person
bearing your name , steal them and check them in)

Would be cool if Inventor had the smarts to prompt
you to check in before closing. You know, kinda like when you start editing and
it asks you if you want to check it out.

"Whoah, hey there pardner, if you close now without
checking in, ya might me sorry later. Would ya like to check in."

And if they could do the Inventor messages more in
like a John Wayne vernacular, it would be a lot more fun too.

Checking in and out for part isn't the problem.
Just as you said, you can check them in and out by using Check in/out tree. This
works quite good. But not for drawings. They will not checked in by using this
command,  and you have to do this for each file, one be one. This irritates
me alot!! There has to be a way to chech them in out side Inventor or to do this
easily??!!

LOL,

There could be a whole market for Inventor
personalities.

The Drill Sergeant:
"WHAT IS MY MAJOR MALFUNCTION?  I HAVE A OPEN
LOOP THAT NEEDS TO BE CLOSED!  CLOSE IT NOW MAGGOT!"

The School Marm:
"Now user, you know better than to try to edit a
library file.  Be a good boy/girl and change to a new
project."

The Surfer Dude:
"Woah.  Like you just shredded some surfaces
there dude!  Major bummer!"

The George W Bush:
"The work axis you select has gone bad.
You must do something to stop this Axis of Evil"

The Dell sales guy:
"Dude, you're getting an access
violation"

ok I guess that's enough...

We had couple of drawing that were crashing the
computers also it was during the update to the drawing as it opened it seamed to
need access to all  the part files. until we checked them in it complained
about the drawing being locked and crashed before we could attempt to check the
drawing out.

have not found any external method of checking
parts in on mass if anyone out there knows of a utility I would love a
copy.
Spoke to our reseller he recommends we purchase a
document management system as there is an option in the project file to use an
external program but at the moment I can not afford that.

You could always use the original and free
PDM...."Hey, guys! I'm working with #XXXX assembly!  Don't edit any of the
parts, ok?"

Of course I'd go for the Star Trek one.

Captain, we've drained all our our RAM reserves! She just can't process an assembly drawing of this magnitude. We've got to close 'er down now or she'll fall apart!

Just a request for people in this thread to check their newsreader settings to make sure
replies are set to plain text in options, and that maybe we could start snipping a little
bit again ...... Purdy please 8^)

17 KB for one line of new text is a bit much?

Are you using the share or semi-isolated
environment?  We are running here in semi-isolated and are having no
problems (except for OE) with checking in and out all file formats, especially
IDWs.  Many times when working on an assembly or detail drawing I checkout
all the files using the 'checkout tree' and when finished 'check in tree'.
Everything checks in and out just fine.  R6SP1 has been very stable with
W2KSP3.

Dudes and Dudettes -

This is getting WAY off topic and into the old Take5 chatter.
Please "rein" it in so the moderators don't have to do a trash
and burn on your messages!

And again a plea for these eyes and fingers - SNIP your
quotebacks off at all possible. Your moderators will be eternally
greatful.
