Hi Guys,
I don't know if the project settings are set up incorrect, but this is the scenario: Whenever we copy files (Assemblies, parts and drawings) in Windows browser from one folder to another we noticed that when you open the assembly all the parts links to the folder that you copied them from and not the folder that you copied them to. Then you have to go and replace all the components to break to link. Then same happens with the drawings. We have started using the pack and go function, but it is not ideal. We want to be able to copy and paste (quick and easy).
Cheers,
iUser
Hi iUser,
did you create a new project doing this?
Because if you have done this in one only project, you will have more files with the same name (assemblies, parts, drawings), and this is not good for the software for which the files name are quite important to manage all the hyperlinks.
Here some infos about projects:

A good tool to duplicate files and rename them keeping all the links and hierarchies is the iLogic Copy design, very simple and quick tool, that you can find (with all the files closed) in Tools>iLogic>iLogic Copy Design

This is the exact scenario that makes Vault such a useful tool. If you do a copy design in the Vault and point to the folder you want the copied files to go to, all of the files remain linked. You do not have to go through all of these headaches.
If you have the product design suite, Vault basic comes with it. Would definately be work looking into if you do this alot.

Or if you like something that was said and it was helpful, Kudos are appreciated. Thanks!!!!
I started using Vault as a single user just for Copy Design. Where Used and Uses searches are helpful too.
It also improved my workstation's performance because I stopped trying to open files from a network share and I got to keep a searchable index to my design history.
I would not use IV in a production environment without Vault.

Hi guys,
I found the solution for copying a design over (if you are using only one project file). Go to:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2010\SDK\UserTools\Copy Design
Looked for something like this for so long, it links all drawings and parts to the new assembly.
Please accept as sulotion if this helps you.
