Licenseerror "17.1.8"

One of ou costumers get this ugly 17.1.8-error
If he starts the programm (doesn't matter MDT6 or IV5.3): "Error 17.1.8
License Manager is incorrectly installed or is not functioning"
If he wants to import the licence from another computer with the license
transfer utility: "Can't find the machine identification code".
Version: Inventor Series 5.3 Studented.
OS: XP Prof. incl. SP1
System: AMD Duron 900, Board Gigabyte GA 4 IXEH, 512MB RAM
RTS-version: 3.27
Office 2000 Prof. + SCSI-Scanner (SCSI DOMEX 3191A +Netzwerk
(Ethernet/TCP-IP, Realtek 2029A)
Partition C is FAT, XP is installed on Drive E (NTFS-Filesystem),
XP-Bootmanager also allows start of Linux on one more partition (ext2).
There is no virus scanner installed (which is supposed in the only
knowledgebase doc TS65112 about this error).
Any tips/hints about what's going wrong?
Thanks

Andy

Here's the workaround which solved the problem:
1. Installing Windows XP Pro
2. Creating all other partitions with the diskmanager of XP
3. Installing MDT6/IV 6
4. Installing Linux into the partitions creatied in Step 2

Everything is running smoothly now.
