Hi group i just got me a leap motion controller (don't know how to use it yet 8-)
i think i need to down load apps to controll stuff, has anyone used it in inventor if so what app do i need to control inventor?
regards Adrian
Lots of "talk" about them but no "reviews" or Inventor experiences that I've seen.. Just the marketing BS
So hurry it up already..plug it in and find an 8 year old to show you how to use it..then post the review video with some cheesy porn music.
I am curious about how you envision using this device?
Boardroom or vendor exhibit presentations? Other?

Ok, it seems like the software people have to develop the plug in for it!! that means autodesk developing the app??
i guess i will have to wait a bit more 8-(
I did see videos of it in use in inventor and Maya but i guess these were early development shots.

Also JD i bet people said that when the mouse first came out!
I was using CADKey with the keyboard arrow keys for navigation. (F keys for commands)
Now I would have a hard time without a mouse and SpaceNavigator.

You will have to wait for software/drivers to be developed by the LeapMotion people for Autodesk Inventor. Autodesk won't develope drivers/software for LeapMotion, no different than 3dConnexion developting software for use with Inventor.
aww now I got one i want to play with it!
ths is a great bit of kit, and seeminly very acurite, i want to use it in 3d cad though whcih is why i purchased it, i assumed it would just work like a mouse with a few extra abilities!
Yes, I need the exercise of waiving my arms around all day rather than the micro-motions made to control mouse and SpaceNavigator. Maybe it will help my carpal tunnel syndrom onset as well. Leap elbow though....

I actually think the technology is great but and a big BUT! it needs some clever people to sort the plug in for inventor !!!
I see a use for the technology for presentation, but not for daily production work in it's present form.
There is a plug-in for SolidWorks available. You might experiment with that if you have access.

I have a Leap device, and I use gamewave to provide a couple simple shortcuts. It is not something I would try and draw with, as it is far to inaccurate for that. Not only that, but try holding your hands about 6 inches above your desk for more than a few minutes at a time, it takes a far more noticeable amount of effort to use the Leap device than it does to use a mouse and 3D mouse.

As the technology progresses -
I suspect that we might end up with a device that will resembly a mouse pad that we will rest our hand on with minute finger movements.
And a different device for group presentations.

Hi jeremy
that sounds interesting i will purchase gamewave tonight and have a play, what do you think of it in general?
from what i can see it is quite difficult to get precise movements like mouse clicks and it will be good for rotating / moving stuff on the screen but i think this is more software based than hardware issues, game wave sounds good and it may be quite usable for instance in combination with a mouse?
so set up the leap in my case on the left hand for rotating the design on the screen and the mouse for more precise inputs.
I am not sure yet but I don't think the leap needs to be right in front of the screen, the leap can be located over to the left (in my case) in a comfortable position perhaps on a bracket in the arm rest of my chair?
I think with some thought the issue of arm pains could be dealt with. 8-)

I'd rather not hold my arms above my desk for a nine hour work day. Haven't you ever done that thing where someone bets you you can't hold your arm straight out in front of you for a solid minute?
