knurl hatch in drawing

Hello Inventor Users,

How do I apply a knurl hatching pattern to my Inventor drawing (.idw)?

Textbook figure below from Fundamentals of Modern Drafting by Wallach shows the hatching I'm trying to show in my drawings.

I applied the "Knurled 45" material to the part (.ipt) but didn't see any knurling/diamond pattern applied. When part is added to the drawing (.idw) it doesn't show any attaching.

thanks,

Hi jeffjensen,

Here is the method that came to mind:

  • Create your drawing view.
  • Select the bounding box of the view (red dotten border line when you hover over the view).
  • With the view selected click the Create Sketch button (the view must be selected first in order to create the sketch as part of the view, rather than just a sketch floating on the sheet, unattached to the view).
  • Use the Project Geometry button to project the 4 edges of the rectangular area you want to hatch.
  • Click the Fill/Hatch button and select lines you projected.
  • Check the Enable button for the Hatch.
  • Set the Angle to 45.
  • Check the Double button to create the diamond pattern.
  • Set the Scale as needed.

To edit the hatch, first edit the sketch and then click the Fill/Hatch button again, and then reselect the hatch.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
