Keyway on Shaft

I have never done this before and I can muddle my way thru it. But what I would like to know is the 'simple' way to create a keyway on a shaft in the middle that does not connect to the ends. End connecting keys are pretty basic to draw and extrude thru (maybe still a better way?) but the middle one is a headscratcher for me.

File attached for viewing and extreme criticism. 😉

TKS!

Couldn't open your file (different IV release) but based on your description here is what I can offer.

Best Regards,

Igor.

That is a basic version of exactly what I was asking. Thank you!

I was looking thru the plane list after I looked at your file and I dont see an 'extrusion plane'. Or did you just rename it to that? If not, how did you go about creating it?

You have to create a work geometry as needed. Extrusion 2 Plane is an offset tangential plane  from XY plane.

If you are not using the Shaft Generator - here is another method.

Igor, got it. Thank you!

JD, Shaft Generator? Dunno if that is in your PDF you had previously linked but I have not even thought of trying the shaft generator in inventor. I use it all the time in Mechanical and it never occured to me... thanks for the tip!
