Keyboard Shortcuts Disabled?

Hey all-

I've searched through the forums, but can't seem to find an answer to this.

I'm working in Inventor, humming along, when all of a sudden, my keyboard shortcuts and aliases stop working.  The Inventor defaults, my custom ones, even simple ones like "CTRL-Z", all of them!  It's happened to me twice now, and the only solution that seems to work is to close everything, shut down Inventor and restart (ie, a real pain in the butt).

Has anyone else run into this?  What am I doing that causes this to happen, and how do I reactivate them once it happens?

Thanks!

At this time I do not see any other reports of this occurring and not sure if this is an installation issue or not? One thing you can try is when you first start Inventor and it is working correctly go to the "Customize" dialog box and export the XML file for all of these shortcut settings. Then when it stops working you can try reloading them using the "Import" button. If you are using the Ribbon menu you can invoke the Customize dialog box from within the "Tools" tab.

If this does not help then if possible log into the system as the default local administrator, then repair the installation of Inventor to see if that corrects this issue.

Regards,

Don

I've installed Factory Suite 2011 this morning - when I run Inventor and try to use keyboard shortcut D to start dimensioning in a sketch, nothing happens.  All my settings are correct - reported this to my reseller who took over my screen via www.gotometting - same thing happened.  Defiantly a bug in this install (on my Dell Optiplex 780 workstation).  I have Inventor Pro 2011 on my laptop and keyboard shortcuts are working fine - I even tried exporting the "customise" xml from my laptop and importing on the workstation - still not working.

Oh well, hopefully fixed soon!

Neil,

I do not have Inventor Factory installed at this time to test. I have reported this issue to the Inventor Factory development team at this time so they are aware of this potential issue.

Quick question after reading the above: is this something that just started happening with Factory Suite installed? Or was this occurring with a prior Inventor installation?

Thanks,

 Jeff

After some investigation, it looks like what you are seeing is some overlap with some of the keyboard shortcuts introduced by the Factory Design Utilities add-in with some built-in Inventor shortcuts, such as the General Dimension command.

Can you confirm this by taking a look in the status bar when you hit the 'D' key, to see if it's asking for you to choose which D command you want? My guess is that if you were to hit Enter after hitting the D, that it would activate the Dimension command.

Thanks,

  Jeff

This install (Autodesk Factory Design Suite 2011' [includes Inventor, AutoCAD Architectural, NavisWorks etc]) is on a new workstation, which for clarity has had no autodesk (or any other) CAD applications installed previously.  I didn't post full system specs' firstly due to time constraints (I was busy yesterday) and secondly from experience I was pretty sure this is not hardware related.  For your info the workstation (not my choice!) is a Dell Optiplex 780, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Intel onboard graphics (Quadra FX1800 ordered for upgrade), Win XP Pro SP3 all updates and hotfixes.  AV was disabled during installation.

Following on from your last post, if I hit Enter after 'D' then the dimension command is active - see screen grab attached.

I assume that hitting Enter after D is not the solution (although it works in short term) otherwise this is no longer a keyboard shortcut!!!  After 6+ years of using D while sketching, I'd be an unhappy guy having to use D+Enter.

Thanks, Neil, for clarifying the situation, and confirming our understanding of the problem.

We're looking into how we can provide a better solution.

Cheers,

@Don Warner-

It just happened again, so I tried importing my saved customization file as you suggested.  Didn't help at all.  Also tried repairing the install last week and it seemed fine, but now it's doing it again.

When ever I hit a letter or number key while in Inventor, I get the Windows "ding!" sound.  It doesn't even register on the status bar at the bottom of the screen that I've hit a key.

Any suggestions?

Jeff,

Any progress re: reinstating keyboard shortcut 'D' in Inventor, Factory Suite?  Please advise.

Cheers (same Neil, on personal log-in)

Hi Neil -

We are preparing a Service Pack that will address this problem (as well as provide additional fixes/enhancements). This should be available in the next several weeks.

Cheers,

Jeff,

I've downloaded and installed Inventor SP1, which has not fixed the issue.  I've also searched for a 'Factory Suite' service pack, but it seems from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=15115285 that there is no such thing.  Please advise when the Service Pack you refer to will be available, and where will it be available from (i.e. Inventor SPs or Factory Suite?).

Hi Neil -

You're right that the Inventor Service Pack does not contain a fix for this. We're working to complete a separate Factory Suite update release, which will include a fix for this, as well as extra fixes and functional improvements. We hope to make this available in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your patience.

Hmm. Really?

I thought this got resolved a long time back.

Is the problem exactly as originally described?

Thanks,

  Jeff

Yes same error. If Inventor is started with the Factory addin loaded, then the default keyboard shortcuts are set. You can override them in the Customize dialog, but your changes will only persist througout that session. So if you run Factory, pressing D forces you to choose between "General Dimension" and "Discussion Forum". I need the later of those 0,000001% of the times I press D I am quite sure this is the way it has been since the very first Factory (2010/2011?)
