Just for grins!

A coworker just pointed out to me that the save icon in Inventor looks ike a 3-1/2 floppy disc.

Do they still make those?

You have no idea, Curtis.

I'm so used to this beast that if I have to use a regular calculator - I've got a TI-36 Pro (I think) as well, for FE exam prep that I never seem to have time to work on - it just tears my mind apart.  I hate having to use a normal calculator.

It's worth the price just to watch them hunt for the "=" button

(Is it just me, or is it a bit daring to have a Van der Graaf generator so close to electronics?)

Since I like to live dangerously, it's even USB-powered.

(seriously!)

(It's not really a VDG, though ... it's just a plasma ball. Like a cathode ray tube, but without the focus. Sort of.

A clean desk is a sign of a filthy mind, Blair!

(But I don't mean the calculator is USB powered ... I meant that the plasma ball is.)

It's my CDO, it's just like OCD except that all the letters are in their proper alphabetical sequence.

My old boss had a surveyor's mechanical calculator - A Curta, I do believe.  He was always threatening to put it in a glass-fronted case, along with an Etch-a-sketch, over top of the CAD station - "In case of emergency: break glass."

I transferred high-schools and couldn't use my Rockwell 63R at the new school in Physics. Had to go purchase the "Sterling" slide rule in 1975 that's in the picture (still have the manual and case). It got replaced by a Ti58C in college. Which then was replaced by the HP32sII in 1988 that is pictured. Still works great the HP and the Slide Rule.

Here's how the conversation goes among program developers:

"A floppy disc for a save icon?  We need to update to this century!"

"And replace it with what icon?"

"Uhhh...."

[end scene]

I guess the floppy icon does look like a SD card. With USB drives in all shapes, sizes and colors it would confuse the programmers.

With a cloud icon, of course.  What could be less confusing?  Smiley Frustrated

It'll rank right up there with that statue of Arthur Dent summoning a bowl of petunias from thin air.

Ha!  I am just old enough to remember 5.25" floppies.  First computer my family ever owned, back when we lived in the thriving Metropolis of Nome, Alaska, was an Apple IIC.  My Dad bought his first computer game ever - called Broadsides.  One day I decided to play it while he was at work (I was probably 6 or 7) and ended up somehow formatting the discs.  Long story short, I got negative feedback.

But, fast forward a decade and my parents got me this TI-85 when I was headed to college in 1994.  To make sure it wasn't stolen, my Dad engraved my SSN on both the calculator and the cover.  Smiley Surprised

I still use it every day.
