Jpegs in IDWs

Pasting a picture (jpeg for example) into a idw file makes idw file very large compared to original jpeg file. If you then delete jpeg picture from idw file it stays at the enlarge size. If then adding more pictures the idw file soon becomes massive . Is there a purge command?

RMB in Windows Explorer - Purge.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't all that do is to wipe out files in the
OldVersions folder?
