IV7 Slow with Windows XP Update

Yesterday I applied 2 Windows XP Pro security updates from microsoft (KB824145 and KB810217). My system became extremely slow. An assembly that used to take less than 2 minutes to open is taking since yesterday almost 20 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this problem.

Has it re enabled Zip Folders? Try un-registering it.
regsvr32 /u C:\winnt\system32\zipfldr.dll

What is Zip Folders? How would I tell if they are enabled on a system?

When I added these patches; I lost my internet
connection. I used "system restore" to roll back to a previous "good"
configuration.

It is Microsoft's failed attempt to compete with WinZip. It attempts to
make zip files look like directories and will bring your computer to it
knees if there are a lot of zip files on your system. It seems that it
is constantly opening the zips up to gather enough information so that
it can present it to you in the form of a folder.

MS doesn't compete, they crush.

I myself had previously unregistered zip folders to find them re-enabled again,
but also noticed that while it was unregistered, no one else with XP could copy
zip files remotely from my system successfully. Is there a way to permanently disable
this zip folder behavior.

Like this??? The winzip folders are shown below the directory folders. If
I click on one of these zip folders, the contents of the zip file is shown
in the pane on the right.

Should I unregister this?

Yes, unregister it then report what improvement you get.

I am still trying to figure that out. On some machines, it stays
unregistered on others it doesn't. Go ahead, try unregistering it and
then deleting zipfldr.dll. It will be restored by XP.

I unregistered it, then the zip folders no longer showed up in the browser.
Problem is, the zip files are now not associated with Winzip. When I
re-associated the files with winzip, the folders again appear in the
browser.
