IV6SP1 - repeated crashes caused by this .IPT

Hi all,

I posted a problem file in CF Nov. 20. Anybody have time to take a look at
it? Details are in the post at CF, and in earlier post here.

Thanks, Keith

I played with it a little. Inserted, moved, constrained.
Nothing so far, except when I tried rebuild all (missing
font).

Oh yes, it would be missing the custom true-type font. I wonder if
pack-n-go would bring the font along. I'll try it.
Thanks for giving it a try.

I was curious about that too. Pakngo fonts used for emboss,
that is. Post back. If it doesn't, it should.

Uh... I don't think it takes the font with
it.  The pack-n-go log reads:

Date: Friday, November 22, 2002 5:54
PM 200211221754

Operation Type: All
Keep folder
hierarchy: No

Number of Files Copied:
1
Total File Size: 1.14 MB
****

AND,
when I tried to open the pack-n-goed file, crash
again...

Why does
just this file cause Inventor crash?

okay keith,
Now I don't know what's going on! I had that ipt opened,
rotating, moving, saving, the whole deal. Brought it into an
assy, stepped through constraining and dragging against
partial constraints, no prob.
Just went back to check again (since it's still giving
you trouble) and now every time I touch it IV6SP1 crashes.
Third try at opening and it locked my whole system. Right
down to hardware reset.
no fun here,
dum-de-dum-dum (waiting for win2k to reboot)
Yup, now I can't touch it without locking inventor. very
strange.

Thanks for confirming that there might be problems with this file. I had
very similar intermittent results, odd crashes, etc...
Hopefully, someone from autodesk will also take a look at it.

I played with this a little bit, and the problem seems to be Emboss1.
Initially, I tried Save Copy As, and I got an error. After I deleted that
emboss, I was able to save, rebuild, etc. without crashing. I tried
suppressing it, but it would still crash on rebuild.

Since you couldn't open the part, I saved it without the toxic emboss and
posted it in CF.

Thank you Loren,

I'll download the file you posted and see what kind of results I get with
it.

Loren,

It seems to work fine now. I'll have to try the emboss again and see if I
can make it work this time.

I placed the same text on the part again, and embossed it. It appears that
fixed it. Not a problem anymore.

Loren,
Does the file help in any way to make SP2 more stable? Can you figure out
what caused the problems? Please send the file over to QA if they can do
anything with it. Please refer to my earlier post regarding the same
problem, for the log file crash messages.

Thanks again,
Keith
