IV10 install error 1722

Hi all:

I have put off installing IV10 until the bugs are worked out - or so I thought. I get an "error 1722" during the SQL server installation. There seems to be a lot of discussion about this, but no clear path to resolving the issue. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance,
John.

PS: I tried attaching the log file, but that apparently isn't allowed.

This usually means that the MSDE installation failed, though in
actuality the 1722 is a general error code that means a sub-installer
failed.

In your case, in fact it is a problem with the MSDE installation. This
part of the process is logged separately, in a file called
MSDE_CC_Setup.log. Can you post that one?

Most of the time when there are errors here, it's due to corruption in
the performance counter registry keys. I'd be happy to take a look at
your log and give you some guidance toward how to resolve the problem.

Thanks Jeff

See attached file

My VAR tech support guy has recommended logging in as the system administrator - something I cannot do. I have a corporate IS guy on the way to our facility this afternoon (for an unrelated reason) who will login for me. If this doesn't work, they will want to re-image my hard disk, which will mean reinstalling about 15 pieces of software. I hope you can help me.

Regards,
John.

John -

This is the relevant section of that log:

I would guess that you do need to get system administrator privileges to
allow the installation to succeed.

There are some newsgroup posts on this subject, e.g.:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.msde/browse_thread/thread/7a70c6976526c59e/4fd6db452dc0d678?lnk=st&q=MSDE+SetFileAndRegACLs+%22Failed+to+set+file+security%22&rnum=1#4fd6db452dc0d678

but it's not clear that it's totally on-topic.

Unfortunately, they're not giving us much to go on, but it would make
sense that in order to set file and registry access permissions that one
would need administrative access. This is quite common for installation
processes.

I can't imagine that re-imaging your hard disk would be helpful. Is
there someone who can login as an administrator to complete the
installation?

Thanks Jeff:

An IS guy is on the way. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi

I've had this message several times on different machines. To get around the problem I've installed IV_10 as a stand_alone trail version. Then immediately removed the program. Then the network installation image has always ran no problem after this.

This error code means that a sub-install of the Inventor install failed.
To know what the problem is, and what might be done to correct it, you
(we) need to examine the various installer log files. Often, it's
related to the installation of MSDE (SQL Server).

So, in order to help you, we'd need the log files from the machine where
the failures occurred.

All I had to do is run the installation as "administrator". It worked fine after that.

John.
