IV and a FEA program

We are looking for a low end FEA program for our IV assemblies. Is there one available cheap? Cheap is relative but our products are simple cabinets. It must function well but it does not have to be overly complicated. Our one engineer is working remotely, I presume he would run the software or our design drafters would with the engineer doing review.. Any ideas?

MDT has a very crude FEA program in the Power
Pack.  For a bit more sophistication I'd suggest Design Space from
Ansys.  Simple to use and not too expensive.

I had a client recommend design space too. Do you happen to know where to look for that? VAR?

First place to look for a local
reseller.

One downside to Designspace is that you had better
be prepared to pay $1400 a year or so in maint.  Ansys has a trick that
even though you pay your initial 5 or 6k you can't reload the program even on
your own machine.

I have a case where I work for a small company and
the version I use is sufficient so I dropped the maint.  I had a hard drive
crash and tried to reload, and guess what, no luck.  I paid for the program
but unless I catch up with all the previous maint. fees I'm out of luck.
Now I'm in for almost as much as Cosmos would cost new.

Just a word of warning

I recommend Algor software. Their program is very, very robust and very economical. Even more so
than Ansys Design Space. Try www.algor.com. My company has been using it for a long time and
we really like it.

George I'd speak with Ansys about this.  I had
a similar situation.  They must provide you with a auth code for the
version you currently have.  They did not sell you a timed version.
They sold you a copy of software.

Sean,

I went through my dealer who told me he spoke to
Ansys and they couldn't help.  I'll try the direct approach and let you
know how I make out.

As a rule of thumb with stuff like that I go direct
to the manufacturer.

What all is needed for the Algor product. core and translator. We are interested in load testing models and heat disapation within the cabinets.

In simple terms, you will need (1) The INCAD module for Inventor. It adds this nifty command into the
Inventor environment that, when selected, meshes your model and sends it to the FEA environment in
one 99% flawless operation. (2) The Steady-State (or Transient) Heat Transfer Module for your thermal
analysis and finally (3) the basic package. I'd be happy to send you some screen shots of the interface
if you would like. If so, contact me at mmiller@genlytethomas.com.

Thanks

I'm an Algor user too. I'm happy with it. If you contact them, they
can do a remote demo for you. You supply the CAD geometry and tell them
what you want analyzed. They will broadcast over the internet, and you
can watch them as they set up and run your model.
