When it is ready !!!

(hopefully not before at least two beta-releases to get rid of most of
the gremlins)

Will we get more functionality for surfac modelling in IV7?
Any new functions planned in that respect?

Nothing has been released on IV7 yet.  Your
guess is as good as anyones.

Like most new releases, they are trying to make it a surprise, even though that
frustrates CAD managers trying to convince upper management to buying new
software maintenance. 🙂 I think it's in case they have to scrap some function,
they haven't whet anyone's appetite for it.

Is the IV release schedule roughly every 6 month's?

And they operate in the US 😉

If they "promised" a feature, but could not deliver it,
Autodesk would probably be sued. (and would probably loose in court).

Suppose we users are still limited to rumors...
I heard, that IV7 will have some enhanced piping, enhanced large assembly
performance, and that it will not have any improvements on surfacing.

Because they are a public company, and if they make a statement about what
is going to be in future products and it does not make it into the product
the share holders can sue them. The reason for this is a share holder may
have purchased stock based on the anticipated profit from the new feature.

This has happened to Autodesk and other public companies.

Hi Gene, what's happening?

Barring incremental releases (like 5.3), it appears as though full releases have now slowed to a 10-14 month release cycle.

I also heard that there will be a add-on package for mold design

I heard a few things too such as:

1) Autodesk has determined that in almost ever case when instability occurs the user was using the mouse. From now on Inventor will be all coordinate entry. Not so bad when creating geometry but I suspect selection will be a real pain.

2) Shape Manager kernal has been the cause of most inabilities to create complex shapes like lofts and drafted and filleted parts. These problems didn't exist in 2D AutoCAD so from now on Inventor will be 2D only.

3. Due to all the user issues with Design Assistant and file management Inventor will no longer support saves to disk. Draw your product, print it and store the paper copy is the new method.

4. ATI has bought up Inventor. From now on ATI cards are the only ones that will work.

Well thats about all I heard. Anyone have anything else?

Ok guys here are some answers for ya. I just got back from the Manufacturing show up in Chicago this week. Here is what was announced and a link to go with it. Adesk has bought TrueInnovations PDM and incorporated it into Inventor. They have also purchases Linius which is a cable and wiring program. While I was there I also saw a demo of R7, assemblies are much faster to load, it looks like there will be some mold feature representation added as well. I can't say more than that. Mike@RTSWright
