IV 7 to 3dsMax 5.1 loses constraints

We have sent out a large assembly (1000 parts) for rendering and animation.
When he brings our assembly ino Max, the constraints are either lost or
incorrect.

Do any of you have any experience with this, or know where to find any
information on this process?

Thanks.

i've never had my constraints import into max or viz. I think only the model
itself is brought in. though maybe i should look if max 6 will

Not going to happen in Max 6 either. Constraints are lost on import as there
is no support for it. Constraints in Max and Inventor are 2 different
animals. Max's are lock outs for transform info only on certain axis's. If
you click the links of an object under the Hierarchy panel and it is linked
to another object, then you can lock it from moving/rotating or scaling on
an axis, depending on the check boxes you click.

Constraints do not transform to max.
Its a bugger but thats what we payed for 😉

Thanks very much for your input Guys.

That's what I was afraid of. This would be a VERY useful feature to have.

Bairdo.

Max is a visualisation tool that can handle a couple of million polygons. If
it were to support constraints like we know in Inventor, I dread the
overhead that would burden the operation. It would be nice if it could
support it, but franky i need my resourses in Max for other tasks more
important than constraints. i.e being able to rotate my models in the
viewports. A large model with constraints would bring Max to its knees.

maybe an inventor version of viz render then? since the model is already
created just have a link between inventor and vizrender. That's how
Architectual desktop2004 works

That wouldn't help us much. We are trying to get an animation out of this.

Oh well, just have to do a bit more work then.

Thanks,

Bairdo.
