Is there any way to have the cancel button actually cancel?

Is there a way when (by mistake) I hit "open" on a big file that I really
didn't want to open to have the cancel button actually cancel the action?
why is that button there anyway?........just curious

oh and I already know the "end task" on the Inventor session trick and
depending on the size of the file I will actually do this since it's quicker
than waiting for it to open and then closing it.

That would be great.

Allowing the Esc button to interrupt that and other quasi terminal
operations would also be welcome.

Albert:

I'm sure there are some who won't chime in.

It's just too convenient to have the "Oops, I set off a really long
operation by mistake. Oh well, I guess I'll have a smoke" excuse 😉

Yeah, I've been asking for this since r4 (there where lots of commands that
would lock you up for an hour back then). Sometimes you'll try generating a
piece of complicated geometry and it'll go off into lala land for a good
long while. When that happens, I'm inclined to just want to end the action
and try a different approach but I can't. The only options are to wait it
out or ctrl-alt-del.

It works in Autocad, why shouldn't it work in Inventor?

Just show your boss, calculate the time lost and press for a new machine.
It's that same day productivity. I think that we have all done it, I know I
have, but on the bright side, that IAM probably needed a rebuild and a save.
