Dash numbers go on parts made from purchased parts/stock (extruded shapes,
etc.) that get modified and consequently become ours. They get dash numbers
(-001, -003, -005... for parts or -101, -103, -105... for assemblies) so
there's no way to tell what the next dash number would be for a particular
part/assembly. Could change it in the table, but the templates work pretty
well as they are. I have generic cut-sketches, MIL-Specs, Finish-Specs and
Material call-outs included in the templates as well as the Tierney
reference for aluminum and CAGE CODES as required, so I can just set the
extents length, angle of the cuts and dash number then save the part with
the dash number in the file name. Not a workflow I have a problem with ...
it's the parts list I have a problem with.

This structural shape is just an example (Josh Petitt was trying to link the
length of his custom iPart to derived parameter).
What do you mean with "dash numbers"? Can't you include the dash number in
the iPart table?

Ah ... structural shapes is what you're doing. I normally use templates for
those because they get dash numbers.

Thanks a million Udaya, the iMate trick did it!
Check the end-result (zip file).
The only thing: I have now created a "FakeBeamLength" so I get a custom
iPart. Is there another way?
Cheers,

Teun, did you try the "iMate trick"? If you add an iMate to a sketch
geometry of the sketch of interest, that sketch should get derived into the
iPart child. This should work with anything including surfaces.

Is it possible to create an iPart which would show its sketches?
Or is
it possible to create an iPart which only contains surfaces?
I can get neither one to work. iParts don't show any sketches, and even
surfaces don't show up!
Any ideas?
