Inventor will not save as or export in .stl

I have created my project inside inventor and have no problem saving it in .ipt but I can not convert it or save it as a .stl file. I have tried unloading and reloading my product and that still does not help.

Did you install with anti-virus and UAC temporarily disabled?

Have you installed Service Pack 1 and Updates 1 & 2?

Can  you attach the ipt file here?

Can you attach screen shot of your add-ins manager here?

Is Inventor Studio environment working?

I didn't do it with the anti virus disabled, Do I have to instal the service pack/ updates if I loaded it up yesterday.

When I get home I'll load the ipt.

I'll screen shoot the add-ins manager but currently when I try to click that nothing happens

So I have uploaded all service packs and updates and there was no change. If I try and hit add-ins nothing happens. I have attached a print screen of what happens when I go to save as and one if I go to print>send to 3d print service.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvnience.

Do you mind trying this?

1. Turn off UAC--Go to Control Panel, Search UAC and you will see Change User Account Settings; Change it to Never Notify and click OK button.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Right click on the Inventor icon on desktop, and choose Run as Administrator.

Thanks for your patience,

-Austin

Hi,
Did you try the stand-alone Add-Ins manager from Windows Start Menu | All Programs | Autodesk | Autodesk Inventor 2015 | Tools | Add-In Manager?

Also, please check if you can find any *.addin files under below folder:
%programdata%/Autodesk/Inventor 2015/Addins

Hi! Do other translators (STEP, IGES, or SAT) work for you? Did you try exporting a simple box and it still failed? What is the error message you saw? Inventor is not yet able to export mesh data (imported from STL or other CAD files). If the model contains only mesh without any solid body, STLOUT will not work.

Thanks!

Hi,

There is a similar case here: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/inventor-2015-sp1-missing-file-open-filety...

May you please try to create a new adminstrator account of your OS, log int and try Inventor again?

Again we are sorry for the inconvnience to you.

Thanks,

-Austin

I still have the same problems with Inventor 2015 and Inventor 2016. Is there still no solution?

Hi Frank_Bremen,

Have you tried all the solutions above? And can you export the file with other formats like STEP, IGES?

Thanks,

Evelyn

Yes I did. And export as STEP, IGES, etc. works also. Additionally, i can export a file to .stl if I use AutoCAD but not with Inventor 2015 / 2016.

Inventor is not AutoCAD.

Can you attach *.ipt  file here that you cannot save as stl?

I cannot save any file as .stl. The option does not exist neither at "save as" nor in "export". In 2016, there is a button "save as .stl" in the 3D-print environment but it gives me the message "Cannot save the document with the specified extension (it is not the right type). Type a different extension for the document you want to save, or do not enter an extension"

It probably would have been best to start a new thread and reference the url to this thread and the steps you have already checked/done.

Q1.  What are your system specs (especially OS)?

Frank,

Could you please check if STL Export and STL Import are listed in the Add-In Manager dialog? You can click the Ribbon Tools Tab => Options Panel => Add-Ins button => Translators page to check it. If they do exist in the list box, please click on each to check what's the Location shows.

If the Add-Ins Manager dialog can't be launched from inside Inventor, you could please try the Stand-alone Add-In Manager dialog. You can launch it from Windows Start Menu => Autodesk => Inventor 2016.
