Inventor versus Solidworks

Hello

Why should I buy Inventor instead of Solidworks. I now have 1 Inventor license. There is a need for 3 extra licenses. The salesman of Autodesk can not convinse me that Inventor is a better tool then Solidworks. I have seen things in Solidworks that are not possible in Inventor. e.g. Simpel mirror an assembly. Also the I-part possibility of Solidworks is much more simpel. Give me a good advice.

Yes I closed out of the assembly and opened parts
in MDT.  Then closed the parts and opened the assembly.

those are the ones listed, I know of a couple of the larger companies use
mold tools in house. Mind you my count was only of places that did rubber
goods, there's plastics and iron works, etc

Is that what we were talking about, i thought it was molded products.
And conduit, yea alot of the skidded packages that go out on rigs, or into
plants have to have some sort of hard conduit.

Must extricate large shoe from mouth

Hello? Is there anyone there that can answer my
question about the Mold application being added to AIP or AIS? Andrew?
Anyone?

Mike,

That is not what I meant at all. The applications in Inventor Professional

separate add-on products. Inventor Professional is a packaging of these
add-ons - not our flagship product. Most people don't need all these add-ons

don't bet on it, Autodesk is a publicly traded
company and if they said yes or no, that could cause problems for them. If you
want a mold product, call them, email them, watch for betas, but i wouldn't get
your hopes up for an answer here.

Actually, at NDES last year they were showing off a
mold package for Inventor.  This was before Pro, so they might have pulled
it for that.

Guys guys guys come on. You must admit it is EXTREMELY RARE to find product designed by a ME that used electricity, pneumatics, or hydraulics. PCBs and cable harnesses, I've heard of them. Clearly nobody molds parts anymore.....

I think the PIS series is actually intended for those people that do that stuff all the time instead of occaisionally. Sure we have wire harnesses here but it only takes up 2% of the time on the project so buying a module isn't money well spent. I think thats the whole point behind PIS and when you should buy it.

Kathy,

I have posted some files in CF for
you.

The only change I made to your files, was I made
the part files MDT part files.

So I opened your dwg's, and externalized the part1
file in each, and then placed each new dwg into inventor.

I opened the dwg from inventor using right click
open, made a pattern change, saved and closed, toggled back to inventor hit
update.

And it worked.

Maybe its the nested part in the MDT assy
file?

Yes I closed out of the assembly and opened parts
in MDT.  Then closed the parts and opened the assembly.

I haven't use MDT in a bazzillion years (Now thats what Thanksgiving is all about. I have something to be thankful for), but doesn't externalizing a part make you lose the drawing. So if someone needs to keep an external MDT version and an internal version doesn't that negate the reason for using proxy?
Message 52 of 73

in reply to: j.gossens

Well I have had it happen on MDT part files
too.  I opened your files and immediately had failures.  I repaired
them and then closed the assembly.  I opened the base plate and added a
view and saved in the layout.  The assembly was fine.  I added views
to the pins and the assembly constraints failed.

Wonder what percentage of most people's time is spent extruding, revolving,
sheet metaling, weldmenting sketching... possible to think of a lot a ...
"not everyone will use that 8 hrs a day" add-ins, Id' guess, eh?

Jan,

See the thread " If you have had the error : FATAL ERROR: Schema Migration when working with IDWs ".

Show me where the other guys are addressing the inevitable bugs like this that crop up in any software. The communication between users and Autodesk seems to be improving. I am very encouraged by the increased participation of Inventor developers here lately. Is it just me or have others detected an increased presence?

you dont want to suggest to dassault to discontinue SW. The end result will be that they drop the price of Catia and really give you a hard time.

Is there Customization in SW? There is in IV. Make a difference to you? Hay most of the customization in IV is also shared for free.

Yes there is customization in SW. A great deal of which is freely shared on the SW website. Same as it is here with IV...and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised of many of the others did the same thing.
